Veavyr had been offering his own gia to his weaker patrol-friends, so they could last longer and heal further, but he felt he was running dry too. He had no doubt in his mind that his father would scold him for pushing so far, but it was his duty - and not one he was keen to shun. He continued to sing and hum for multiple more hours, dancing - soaked by the rain - among the branches and feeling the song around him gradually soften into something broadly less miserable. It was fulfilling to hear the tune change, even as his voice grew hoarse and he tasted blood against the back of his tongue. He pressed his hands and lips to the most pained of the trees, resting his forehead against their bark and leaves and whispering to them.
