Guy who pretends to be a dog online (and sometimes a fox.) Enjoys gaming, TTRPGs, VR stuff, and might even talk about the novel he's been working on.
"You can cook the marshmallows with the Burn tag."

Ooooo, this is giving me ideas.

Huh. I would say that rules books (not setting) are nonfiction as they are instructions and guides in how to do something (i.e. play the game,) similar to a recipe or owner's manual.

As obnoxious as vague posting can be, this is for a job interview that is asking me to not go into details. I can complain about my frustration, but I shouldn't be discussing the problem. (And just to be safe, I'm not even going to mention the companies involved.)

Happy belated birthday.

Got a better explanation. Anything GM facing is fair game, so long as the quality holds. Anything player facing (beyond minis, dice, and such) involves serious discussion about balance and why nothing first party would work.

(And everything is "GM facing" for solo.)

For group a TTRPG, ideally it should be 1st party for anything mechanical with 3rd party okay for settings, campaigns, and such. 3rd party classes can be hard to justify.

For solo, I'm game for 3rd party. I still want the base system to be good, but 3rd party can just make things better.

Going to add to the top.

It's heckin' wimdy.

Apparently he'll reach out this week if the team wants to talk, to which I hope he actually tries to set a schedule with the job title for me instead of cold calling.

But here's the thing: at no point in this entire ordeal have I had the chance to ask questions. And I have some serious questions.
November 13, 2025 at 12:12 AM
Then this week, I get another random call in the evening from another recruiter in the company. I was able to understand him so we talked about the position. But the conversation was more of me needing to sell myself while the recruiter just collected information.
November 13, 2025 at 12:12 AM
This is actually a concern I have with this company. They've previously reached out and I got as far as an actual interview before I noticed that I was interviewing for a lead position. Thus afterwards, I make a point to make sure I know what position I'm interviewing for.
November 13, 2025 at 12:12 AM
I later get an email from another recruiter of this company about a lead position in PA. Oh boy. I had said that I wasn't okay with PA. Another problem is that there was no discussion about this being for lead. I was asked about a salary, but that was for mid/senior level, not lead. So stopped that.

The position would require me to relocate. Of all the positions, I only heard CO and PA. CO I'm okay with, PA is a no without being able to do research. "What about ****ana?" he asks.
"Indiana? Sure," I answered. Not a state I'm thrilled with, but it sounds decent.
November 13, 2025 at 12:12 AM
He spoke with the thickest Indian accent I've ever heard and spoke rapidly. Add in a crappy mic and I could only understand about every fifth word. I don't think he caught on that I wasn't understanding him so maybe everything I say should be taken with salt.

Sure enough, the recruiter came back this month wanting to touch base and asked for availability. I said I was available that morning, but heard nothing nor got a reply asking for a different time. I then get a phone call one morning. It was the recruiter.

I cast VRRat, obviously.

That said, these techniques promote meta knowledge and gives a more "gamey" feeling to the system. Shuffling also has to be timed to the game's low points.

So yeah, it is a mechanic I think is worth considering when making a system, if even just partially like a dungeon generator, but usually not.
November 9, 2025 at 9:57 PM
There's ways to manipulate the timing as well, such as adding cards after certain points or doing a special pile shuffle. You can go further with removing more cards from the deck, like drawing multiples at once and not returning unused cards.

I've played a few homebrewed solo TTRPGs that used a standard poker deck and they can be fun, but it greatly depends on the game you want. I found it fun when you want certain values to come up eventually but otherwise randomly.

What about those who unironically like Logan Paul's Japan video? (But otherwise, yeah, most of the judgement seems to be more about ratting out "problematic" people so that they can show that they aren't.)

Though I think in some cases it ends up helping. Now the Oracle can declare Cure as their Signature Spell and get an extra spell for the other levels.
October 23, 2025 at 3:24 AM
The purpose for this is to reduce the spell list to have only one Cure spell instead of Light/Moderate/etc. every odd levels. While this still gives spontaneous casters a bad deal, they also get more spell slots and now enjoy getting spells at the same rate as prepared.
