The Autumn 2025 edition of Quids in! is a 'Healthy Homes' special, helping social tenants take control of their homes. We share the low-down on how insurance works, ways to rid homes of damp and mould, and new laws to protect renters following the tragic case of baby Awaab Ishak.

The Quids in! team is all about reaching people. Dull, text-based leaflets about savings don't cut through. Unlike the government, or even Citizens Advice, we can ask: 'What would The Sun newspaper do?' We can even do 'sexy', if it's going to get the attention of the people we want to help.

Pets bring joy but cost an average £1,500 a year. A dog might cost £30,000 over its life. Charities like RSPCA, SSPCA, Blue Cross, and Cats Protection offer support for sick pets. Benefit claimants may get help with neutering or vet costs. A pet foodbank or a foodbanks can help.

When Quids in! runs its 7 Signs events for unemployed people, we're often told "I don't want to work but I just need the money." And that's as good a place to start as any but it's not what employers want to hear. We share the tricks for proving you're right for the job.

Every two years, Quids in! runs a cost-of-living survey. People want to be heard and 1,000+ responded. The latest, (2024/5), showed that while 3% of older people faced financial problems, 14% of people in work struggled, but 20% of those who are unable to work were in trouble.

In Autumn '22, we launched our #ThinkBiggerThanBills campaign. The cost of living crisis hit everyone but all the advice was on cutting bills. Billions were unclaimed in benefits, for a start. #QuidsIn editor Jeff Mitchell talked through our options.

Information presented on mainstream web pages can be overwhelming to people with low literacy, English as a second language, or less knowledge about their options. The Quids in! magazine website, (link in thread), explains the basics, then links to official pages.

Our finances and our health are so closely linked. People on the lowest incomes have a life expectancy around 10 years lower than other people. No wonder, Quids in! launched a Money Health-Check and back in 2019 we announced our Finance 5-A-Day.

A hero of lockdown during the pandemic, Joe Wicks put the fun into fitness. "My mum left school at 15, she wasn’t educated, she was always on benefits. My dad was a roofer and he was in and out of my life," he says. "When you come from a family that’s never had money, you’re more sensible with it."

In 2020, Quids in! and our parent company, Clean Slate, along with Mastercard and the Good Things Foundation, launched Nobody in the Dark. The campaign supported those struggling financially during the crisis. See our Q&A with Hussain and watch the amazing launch video here: https://loom.ly/xvihlFc

Our research found that just a third of social renters (32.7%) checked they're getting the benefits they're due. £23 billion goes unclaimed each year, as people struggle with bills. InBest, who run the government's Money Helper benefits calculator, also built ours.

Did you know that children are developing their money habits by age seven? Quids in! repeatedly asks the question: If we don't teach our kids about money, who will? (Clue: A credit card company will write to them as soon as they turn 18!) https://loom.ly/9BZ3X18

In 2018, we launched a 'Money Health-Check' that became central to our money guidance service. Its 25 yes/no questions create a personalised action plan for users' budgets. Thousands have used it and those on our 6-week course gained an average £1,300+.

While we covered how business powerhouse Richard Branson called on firms to step up and help customers more, British Gas were doing just that. In 2011, they sponsored our Bill-Buster special, which shared tips on how householders can smash their bills.

When is a joke not a joke? We've used many cartoons over the years. Joan Clark the Loan Shark was a favourite. Here, we highlighted how loyalty to energy or insurance companies is rarely rewarded... If we don't have our hand on our wallet, someone else has their fingers in it!

Quids in! now has a range of guides to help people on low incomes stretch their budgets. Our favourite cover is from the Food Guide - those kids' smiles say it all!!! We crowdfunded this magazine to distribute it to food banks, highlighting the ongoing issue of child hunger.

Famous for his Reggae Reggae sauce, Levi Roots talked money to Quids in! "I grew up in the Caribbean and we used to save money in a tin. Back then the temptation was to just dip into it. I had to develop a good attitude towards saving money. My grandmother always saved for a purpose."

Long before Rip Off Britain hit our TVs, Angela Rippon graced the cover of Quids in!. This was 2010 and it was all change in the UK... Austerity, welfare reforms, and a seemingly never-ending road to recovery from the global banking crisis. Time to keep readers up-to-date with all the changes.

Quids in! forged one of its first corporate partnerships with Wessex Water, who supported our A3 fold-out Budget Planner. These help readers track their finances. Our latest research found only 17% thought their money would last a month, but less than half knew their income or expenditure.
