Not actually ANYONE'S Platoon Sergeant (but I'll try to help anyway). Dadjokes, Venn diagrams, and shreds of other hobbies I rarely have time for. (he/him)
Well he wanted to learn, he didn't want to have to actually suffer to achieve that outcome.

This is my family's go-to every year. The only substantial tweak we make is cooking 70-75 (better for texture) and then giving it 5 more minutes after adding the remaining cheese.

Roasted Butternut Squash & Red Peppers with Rosemary, Garlic & Parmesan
Sweet and nutty roasted butternut squash & peppers gain a wonderful savory depth from rosemary, garlic and melty Parmesan cheese.

"Who's proper-fucked now, then?"

That library system and the team is incredible, easily top 5 things about our time in that area. Even if it was a coincidence, I'd bet $5 someone's already planned how to lean into the joke.

Having a boss like this ~13 years ago was a career-defining transformation for me.

In that it made me learn Excel so I could get the actual work done.

💯 My wife detests mayo... Until we moved to Japan, where it was so good she kept us stocked with multiple flavors concurrently.

GOD this hits home right now.

Extremely interesting, indeed.

Hard to say whether that's the same as *surprising*, just from a look around the ol' social medias (specifically, the ones I barely use for the sake of my sanity).

Agreed on both counts. I was just in a class where the instructor, a senior political media election commentator, commented that there's really no true "gold standard" of polling these days like there was back when people would just answer random phone calls, and that it's a hard problem to solve.

It's like we've settled into the equilibrium of "people who want/will tolerate this, and people who won't," where "this" is just "all of it."

Most of the entertainment value of Sgts Course was being deputized to red-pen the "essays" (I use the term loosely) of my fellow students (so any of them would pass).

To be clear, this is 100% me agreeing with you.

As opposed to the roads around here, which appear to have been designed with outright contempt for the very concept of automobile operation.

(It baffles me that more of my coworkers don't Metro; attached to the point of dependence upon having their car as close as possible at all times.)

My kids' first time on the Metro yesterday. Zero concerns, already plotting how to get them some practice Unaccompanied as a confidence-building exercise.

Bonus: They required precisely (1) "walk left, stand right" to grasp the concept. Unlike approximately 20% of the adults we encountered.

I've BEEN wrong all the time. I'm more right, NOW, because I can admit that.

Man, are you telling me a CRAB ran this goon?!
September 25, 2025 at 11:56 PM
True story: he did the same thing to mom's voicemail too.

Every time I work adjacent to the Navy in any capacity, I come away understanding them less than I did before.
September 21, 2025 at 2:26 PM
You can do both!

(Literally. Once upon a time, my brother butt-dialed me during a booty call, and left an extended voicemail that sounded exactly like what it was. 20 years and we still joke about it.)
September 21, 2025 at 2:25 PM
I mean... that's among the top 10 reasons to follow you.

CUI was clearly the result of "people who don't do much if anything classified" being mad that everyone else's documents looked cooler than theirs.

I gotchu.
