Never noticed that my department library has Redford next to Newman and Streisand.

Just once, even for a moment, I’d like to be as cool as Robert Redford in this still from DOWNHILL RACER.

Scanned some more old negatives. This batch had pics of legendary actress and dancer Vyjayanthimala during a trip to DC around 1970.

(My father, a student at Catholic University at the time, drove her around.)

My favorite Terence Stamp film is THE LIMEY in which Steven Soderbergh used footage of Stamp from Ken Loach’s POOR COW for flashbacks of Stamp’s character as a younger man. (Watch it on Tubi.)

Came across these behind the scenes portraits from NASHVILLE. They did them for each of the 24 characters.

This exercise taught me that my late 90s list alone would compete with this millennium.

Another great crowd for the South Asian Film Series I’m curating to see Wakhri with director Iram Parveen Bilal in attendance.

His movies hit you where you dream.
RIP to a legend.

(Always loved this photograph of David Lynch with my face hovering ominously in the darkness over his shoulder. Really need to scan this.)

Screened NOCTURNES tonight as part of my SOUTH ASIAN FILM SERIES. A beautifully shot entry in a growing trend of eco-docs out of India (see: ALL THAT BREATHES).

I programmed this film in my South Asian Film Series last year and it’s FINALLY available in the States (on Prmie). Highly recommended. A funny, moving, infuriating at times, heartwarming at others look at gig economy work in India. Directed by the great actress Nandita Das.

Was teaching scene structure today and since I have a few students writing mysteries, I picked this as a good example of that moment where the character finally pieces it together.

Do you have any favorite "solving the mystery" scenes I could recommend?
