I have just resurrected this data logger… it thinks it is the year 2043. I am not a time scientist, maybe it’s right?

🐛Eastern tent (light stripe down body) vs. Forest tent (footprint-shaped spots) caterpillars. Both make silk nests to grow up in, Eastern uses the crotches of small trees, I think the Forest uses the ends of branches and makes more like a hammock, but I haven’t found a Forest nest for pictures yet!

Tiny leaf season is in full swing! Some ancient specimens: the ginkgo tree and the deciduous dawn redwood with its delicate little fronds🌲 That one was thought to be extinct, only known in the fossil record, til one was found in the ‘40s deep in a forest in China. Now we grow them ornamentally🙂

Happy Earth Day! 🌳😁🐛🐋🌱 🌎 I was just listening to folk from the Trust for Public Land talk about their schoolyard transformation projects in NYC, turning asphalt lots into green play spaces, sports fields, but also secret stormwater filtering infrastructure! www.tpl.org/blog/playgro... Great work!
Playground or Sponge?
In NYC, well-designed schoolyards are water utilities in disguise, employing green infrastructure elements that capture stormwater, reduce flooding, and protect communities from extreme heat.

Red oak acorns take 2 growing seasons to mature on the tree then they drop in the fall but don’t germinate ‘til the following spring. Looks like this is shaping up to be a good year for red oak regeneration!! #oak #northernredoak #valleyfalls #treesarecool

Clean air regulations paying off!
A professor of environmental sciences gives a quick punchy take on the "eye-popping" numbers re. how clean air promotes economic growth.

An EPA analysis of 20 years of the Clean Air Act (1970-90) found the economic benefits of the regulations were about 42X greater than the costs.

No pay wall.
America’s clean air rules boost health and the economy − here’s what EPA’s new deregulation plans ignore
Clean air has become one of America’s best investments, returning $10 for every $1 spent on regulations, by one estimate.
