Maybe the main news of this #SOTEU is the attendance of Jordan Bardella?

So Trump is also cuddling a bit too much Lukashenko?

To be fair, both men love gold and shiny things.

Big delegations -- including it seems Meloni's party -- did not vote.

So yes, not a victory for Von der Leyen ...
July 10, 2025 at 1:15 PM
Von der Leyen survives the motion of confidence.

But only 553 European lawmakers actually voted. And for the 167 missing, I believe there is a lot of French left-leaning MEPs + overall The Left.

Maybe this explains why so few abstained? They were not bothered to vote?

If you want to laugh a bit:

The "news website" EU reporter (basically a huge copy/paste operation of press releases) as an AI policy ... written 100% by AI tools.

Exhibit B - The same media outlet is still posting promotional content to its running EU-funded projects.

So the Editor-in-Chief can yell whatever he wants. On the money side, management is still keen to secure funding and keep good relationships with its former partners.

Exhibit A - the editor of Euractiv is obsessed with EU media funding (without doing a proper reporting on it but whatever)

Brilliant reporting by @contexte.com on the Mercosur battle plan in Europe

This is a classic Orbán move. See this poster from last year only weeks before Hungary took over the rotating EU Council presidency.

Commissioners and MEPs have diplomatic immunity. And several MEPs will be in Budapest this weekend for pride.

Interesting.

@manonboquen.bsky.social announced on Médiapart a future ECI on Gaza on a review of the EU-Israel association agreement.

Could come as of this weekend as radical left groups are meeting to confirm a new alliance

Was just checking the English conservative pravda.

Still confused how it is somehow stuck in 1812.

The fun thing of this weekend of how former Fidesz MEP and best European gutter climber became a muse for European artists.
