I don’t regret my masters. I think it’s been incredibly helpful but if I could go back I’d do it in something else since it seems that there will be no return on my investment. I feel like HESA and SAHE degrees will become increasingly less popular.

and while I don’t think you need a masters necessarily to be successful it’s ridiculous to me that having experience and higher education levels gets you nothing in terms of pay in the field. I’m all for removing barriers but I feel like devaluation of education is a threat for SA Pros

Now in 2025 I’ve witnessed us hiring multiple people without masters or even direct experience in student affairs at the same salary level as those like myself

Then the pandemic hit and it was so hard to find anyone to fill jobs because shit pay, overworked, bureaucratic bs and so they started hiring people without masters degrees
