It’s easy to forget the challenges faced by our queer patients because of how the LGBTQ+ community is historically (and currently) marginalized. But a few extra minutes of care, empathy, and well-researched recommendations can go a long way toward bridging that gap. (4/4)

Many of the typical support structures older adults rely on are absent for our queer older adults. Further, they may wait to get help/support for HAND because it essentially requires them to disclose their HIV diagnosis to providers/family. (3/4)

- Not out to their family
- Estranged from their family
- Don’t have children (same-sex adoption was only federally legalized in 2017)
- Fewer living queer friends due to the historic impact of HIV/AIDS (2/4)
