i didn’t know siphonophores existed before this app. they’re taxonomically related to jellyfish and are the longest animals in the world. the longest one discovered to date is 150 ft long (last pic, not from FV.) they’re actually colonies composed of thousands of zooids chained together.

starting a thread of my favorite deep sea critters discovered on fathomverse! i’m obsessed with this app. it’s really soothing and informative, helps researchers, and helps people connect with all sorts of funky little guys most of us normally would never see.
