I know it's been said a lot, but I can't get out of my head the emphasis on Native lands, cultures, and heritage, but the lack of acknowledgment of people. Ayaaa, really pandering to get money from Native Corps and profit off Native cultures/land without any action
Dear UAA Community, If you tuned into the UA Board of Regents (BOR) meeting today, you may be aware the BOR passed a motion providing direction to the UA president and the chancellors in response to recent federal actions regarding topics such as diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). I encourage you to review the BOR motion and associated directives. We will continue to communicate through unit leads as more information becomes available. In light of these changes, we want to reaffirm our unwavering commitment to maintaining an open access, welcoming institution for all Alaskans. Additionally, we remain steadfast in our mission to honor Alaska Native lands, culture and heritage. As a university, we will comply with the board’s directive to remove DEI language and practices from our websites, program descriptions, strategic planning documents and institutional goals. We will start this process immediately, aiming to complete the transition as soon as possible while committing to making these changes thoughtfully and with care and compassion. While we recognize these changes can cause uncertainty, UAA leadership is committed to ensuring our university communities remain accessible and supportive environments for all who live, work and learn at UAA. The way we talk about our work and the focus of some work may be shifting, but our dedication to transforming lives and creating opportunities for all remains steadfast.
