Stressed and unqualified developers take shortcuts as well. The worst ones are starting to become common too.

Plagiarism, art theft, AI usage, stealing or tracing fan content, abandoning entire chunks of the game.

It’s turned a harsh industry into a proper graveyard for creativity and passion.

Most developers already don’t know the basic tools of their engine or chosen software, basic optimization, or even the tools that streamline their work.

Then you get companies intentionally purging senior devs and refusing to hire them on.

These games are gonna take 8 times the work now.

Companies are terrible to work for, games are draining to work on, and gamers are the fucking worst to make stuff for.

There’s still a lot of new young blood going into the industry, but the reliance on AI for basic tasks makes me wary.

AI guys just can’t become senior devs.

You can feel it too.

Every game runs poorly, every game is over 100 gigs, every game launches buggy and unplayable.

Some of it is just project leads and deadlines, but a lot of it is just the sheer loss of senior developers and the juniors willing to put in the work to learn important skills.

Never did much architecture though. I’m sure there are a billion good tools I don’t know about.

You can also use level editing software if you want something walkable for brainstorming. Roblox and Unity both have extremely easy to use editors and tools (along with dense asset libraries)

Through Blender, geometry nodes for procedural buildings or to allow you to snap together architectural elements that merge are both plentiful, and often free.

Same with free asset packs for furniture and such. Just be careful to not run any scripts in models you import (potential malware).

Most CAD stuff is usually pretty exotic and expensive for something casual.

If you want something extremely entry level and visual, I’d genuinely recommend TinkerCAD! It’s a web app and is actually a very good beginner’s 3D tool!

(It’s how our profession in 3D started!)

If you’re looking for a floor plan, there are quite a few floor plan makers and a lot of free web based ones too.

If you’re looking for a 3D model, there are free and paid prefab collections of rooms and furniture you can snap together real quickly.

There are also quick architecture programs!
