If we can get anything positive out of the tragic shooting of guardsmen in DC, let it be the final word on why “good guys with guns everywhere” will not prevent gun violence.

The conversation we’re having is woefully inadequate. There’s no going back. We need to be talking about a positive version of forward.

A Dem lawmaker and her husband were killed by a guy for their political views and it’s already out of the news.

And just like that, the ‘No New Wars’ people are all-in on a new war. Proving yet again that they really believe in nothing other than what one man tells them to believe today. Which could be different tomorrow. The very definition of a cult.

We’ve bombed Iran. And dismantled our joint terrorism task force. And sent a third of the FBI to help ICE. And gutted the National Security Council. And a drunk guy is in charge at the pentagon. And our intelligence allies probably won’t share intel with us. Because people couldn’t vote for a woman.

The people who insist on what defines a woman are sure as hell ambiguous about what defines a war.

And now half the country loudly celebrates the fact that one criminal will never see justice. Loudly proclaiming that is is patriotic to deny liberty to others, with no process and no justice. To release criminals who were convicted. They are proud of it, and they dare call themselves patriots.

My whole life black, queer, and other “othered” kids (and yes, all females) have been standing next to white male kids having to say they pledge allegiance to a “nation with liberty and justice for all” knowing full well that these words were aspirational at best, and a cruel lie at worst.
