Lenny Roberts was the other half of the duo.

A music business man, he began to notice a shift in youth listening habits in the late 70s, thx to his son.

Some records that had been gathering dust in stores until then began to be in high demand.

Lou "BreakBeat" Flores started being active in the hiphop culture in 72, dancing and doing tags.

He started DJing in 1974 and started collecting beats for his own use in 1978, heavily influenced by soul music.

For him capoeira is for real and not for show:

"... people who want to put an end to capoeira... are always showing off in the squares like in a theater."

For him transmitting the martial element preserved the link with fights against slavery and with african war dances like Indlamu.

Born legally a free man, due to the "Free Womb" law,

Teodorinho had been playing capoeira since he was 10 years old and had learned it from "old black men", runaway slaves who hid in the woods.

He himself needed it to "enforce" his legal freedom.

Did you know that Wyclef from the Fugees, produced the successful come back of Whitney Houston in the late 90s (My Love Is Your Love).

It led to his involvement with Carlos Santana on the title "Maria Maria"

The "Bulla" is a light portable drum, often considered feminine, used in Colombia.

It gave, with "arenga" (harangue), its name to the #Bullarengue which is a musical tradition of the Africans of Colombia.

Then Lauren Hill in one of the sessions, wanted some thing more old school and asked to listen to the Fat Joe beat.

That's how, with some input from Wyclef Jean the track was created.

Chris lighty and Fat Joe used to visit Saalam Remi at his house. They liked what he did on the first album of the Fugees and wanted a track with the same color.

That track was the basis for fu-gee-la.

In music , one sometime produces a beat, without knowing where it will to land until you met the right artist .

That's how Salaam Remi, the legendary producer made Fu-gee-la, the first title on The Fugees album, "The Score".

Our biggest accomplishments rest on the shoulders of the vision, dedication and inspiration of less known characters.

Renel Duplessis is one of those characters. Without him, the critically acclaimed album of The Fugees, The Score, might have never existed.
