People rarely talk about the Orthodox at all honestly, but yeah Catholicism probably has the most haters.

It’s easy to lump them together from the outside, but most sects do fundamentally disagree with each other.

That’s not an uncommon sentiment at all, considering both Protestantism and Orthodoxy reject Catholicism. Orthodoxy split over a variety of disagreements and considers itself the original correct Christians, and Protestantism was explicitly created as a rejection of Catholicism by ex Catholics.

I’ve been away from the community for too long to have an informed opinion, but this is very sad to see. I think most people burn out on moderating, and often it’s the ones who value the power it gives them that remain.

This upends their entire culture and religion !! And none of them end up being loyal to the gods they worshipped for generations, instead the gods have to recruit Venatori and Qunari

To give an example, it’s just really weird when the *actual elvish gods have returned* to destroy the world and we never once see a Dalish elf examine this beyond “oh damn, the gods are gonna destroy the world that’s crazy”.

It’s by far the best game BioWare has made since Inquisition and a lot of the time it hits, but some of the choices they made really upset me as a fan. Half the time it’s great, and half the time it treats the setting as backdrop ignoring established dynamics like elf racism and blight infection.

Yeah I have major problems with the game, but considering the development history it’s kind of a best case scenario anyway

Was playing Final Fantasy 16 but I switched over to Dragon Age so I can make up my own mind about it before my brain is poisoned by the discourse.

It’s great as a video game, and probably pretty enjoyable for newcomers. For those invested in the setting however, it uses that more as backdrop for generic fantasy rather then the series previous focus on an X-Men sort of marginalization metaphor.

I could go on, but hopefully this gives you an idea!

Another appeal is the world building. The history of this world’s dominant religion weaves my favorite fantasy take on Christianity, and does an excellent job of presenting myths and facts to you in such a way that you’re constantly interpreting and reinterpreting the lore to separate them.

A few things. Like Mass Effect, it’s known for some great characters (and the ability to date them). Some of my favorite rpg characters ever are from Dragon Age!

The series also has an X-Men sort of metaphor going on for marginalized people, and that resonates for a lot of fans.
