The Lich King of Korozda

And again, I want to say thank you so much for having the conversation with me. In the grand scheme it's somewhat trivial, but it does have contact with mechanisms that can live in the command zone and therefore are more likely to occur.

Then there's the interaction of my Shameless Charlatan commander copying a Nadu-templated creature. If the Nadu is flickered and my commander re-targets it, the copied creature is a new object, but the commander is the same object. If I flicker the commander but not the Nadu, the reverse is true.

Leads to counterintuitive interactions like copying a Vivi not refreshing the ability, but copying the Vivi after it has flickered does.
November 26, 2025 at 7:30 PM
This seems a little tortured, but a consistent mechanism is a consistent mechanism...
November 26, 2025 at 7:28 PM
would NOT be able to refresh...
November 26, 2025 at 7:28 PM
This would also imply that a repeatable copy effect such as Shameless Charlatan would be able to refresh triggers/activations by cloning a different creature and then the first creature (e.g. Vivi)?
November 26, 2025 at 7:27 PM
Which implies suppress + unsuppress (Imprisoned in the Moon, Humility) would not refresh triggers as originating object is unchanged.
November 26, 2025 at 7:23 PM
I am also assuming that "triggers only X times" is going to be identical to "activate only X times {in time period}".

Is that assumption safe?
November 26, 2025 at 7:18 PM
You mind if I ask about the "triggers only X times" abilities and (lose and regain without SBA (flicker Nadu) vs. lose and regain with SBA (bounce+recast Nadu) vs. suppress and unsuppress (play+remove Humility))?
November 26, 2025 at 7:16 PM
But back to the CR... if that doesn't currently exist then it doesn't work that way yet?
November 26, 2025 at 6:48 PM
You'd potentially have to implement some kind of language that counts the number of instances of the exhaust ability the creature has and track whether the player has ever activated a number equal to or greater than the current number, kind of like the 'additional land drops' change (Azusa flicker)
November 26, 2025 at 6:47 PM
And wouldn't that have been reflected in the CR update?

Is there a difference between the cases of a creature losing and regaining an ability because of bouncing and replaying Nadu vs. a Humility entering the battlefield and then leaving?
November 26, 2025 at 6:42 PM
back onto the original creature again, and tap and untap the creature, wouldn't the ability trigger again because it's a new instance because for a bit the creature lost and regained the ability?

Can two cases of "gaining an ability that the creature doesn't have is a new instance" be different?
November 26, 2025 at 6:41 PM
First, thank you for getting back to me. Second. In what sense does the creature going from "not having the ability" to "having the ability" not constitute a new instance?

If I have a creature enchanted with Well Rested, and I trigger the ability, then I Aura Graft the enchantment away and then 1/2
November 26, 2025 at 6:36 PM
And then chooses the first creature again, re-gaining the exhaust ability? I see nothing in the rules that suggests that after selecting away and then back, that the ability is anything but a new instance of the ability. 2/2
November 26, 2025 at 6:13 PM
@gavinverhey.bsky.social Gavin, may I also ask if you can speak on it?
November 25, 2025 at 9:48 PM
A background is technically a commander, is it not?
March 21, 2025 at 5:49 PM
But it extracts so much value for its performance!
March 11, 2025 at 3:08 PM
We live in a universe where The Speed Demon doesn't have haste...
March 10, 2025 at 7:50 PM
But honestly, Winter Orb missing, Trinisphere present? Needs to be the other way around.

This card is going to be an "I win the game this turn." button in the decks that run it.
January 28, 2025 at 11:35 PM
Sounds like two birds and one stone.

And obviously, throwing stones at birds is to be frowned upon. What are *you* thinking?
