Waterloo Region
Public Transit, Buildings
GRT also launched a “GRT Pay” app that also allows you to buy fares, similar to the transit app. I think you can also buy multiple tickets and store them. I see mobile tickets getting used a lot and less cash fares than before which speeds up boardings.

It’s motivation to make sure I use GO to track even more of my trips next year!

That light almost always turns green when the ION is either approaching or in the station. I wonder if it's part of the signal priority. The only times I have seen that light red when the LRV approaches, has been when the ION had to stop for a School bus just before the station.

This was filmed just now in Kitchener. Typically the ION doesn’t have to wait very long for their proceed aspect after departing the station. This is the same sequence pretty much every time at this intersection.

I am riding Line 6 right now. I have been using the ION LRT 5 days a weeks since opening day, and Line 6 is so much slower. And the amount of time we have been waiting at lights is crazy.

FlixBus is starting to have some decent direct trip options between Toronto Union and Kitchener or Cambridge. I am trying it out on Saturday so I will see how it goes…

The rise of Condo and Rental Buildings in the region with parking ratios for units to parking stalls of less than 1.0 will hopefully help to build non student ridership since car ownership will be less convenient for residents in those buildings.

But still not moving as fast as the ion

And it was the same LRV 512 that was knocked off the rails by a truck a block over at King and Agnes in 2022.

There are definitely lots of good improvements in their plan but I think the highway express would be more useful and have better ridership if it extended to Ainslie Terminal in Cambridge and UW Station as the Waterloo stop instead of Conestoga Mall. Otherwise it skips where the housing growth is.

As someone who lives in Cambridge and doesn’t drive, it definitely feels like Cambridge is disconnected from everywhere.
If I drove to work in Kitchener it would take me 30 mins but instead I have been doing the 1 hr 20 min commute each way on GRT for that past 5+ years.
