A law like this has to be specific about how age verification can be implemented while protecting Canadians’ privacy. Bill S-209 is too vague, and Big Tech collects too much information about us as is. I don’t trust this bill to protect my privacy.
The United Kingdom passed a similar law recently, and from what I’ve seen in the news, it’s been a complete failure. “Highly effective, privacy-preserving” age verification technology just does not exist right now. I don’t want a half-baked bill like that to pass in Canada.
Until we find a better solution, the government should focus on informing parents about existing parental control tools that can protect their kids online. Unlike Bill S-209, these tools are highly effective and pose no risk to Canadians’ privacy.

i'm not interested in narratives about how the soviet union was uniquely evil or whatever, but they did commit atrocities. I think it's weird how some people in this thread are trying to whitewash them. The USSR were no better than the other Allied nations.
