Spent last week surveying plant communities living in streams across Britain as part of the long-running Upland Waters Monitoring Network (uwmn.uk) assessing impact of air pollution on freshwater ecosystems. We had all four seasons over the week!

Delighted that the EU COST Action DNAqua-Net collaboration has once more borne fruit. We undertook a structured experiment across seven DNA labs to assess sources of uncertainity in metabarcoding for freshwater macroinvertebrate community assessment.

Working with colleagues at @lborouniversity.bsky.social @rothamsted.bsky.social @zoologyotago.bsky.social we have shown that organic component of excess fine sediment in stream bed governs invertebrate community response.
