A bust of John Beaumont, sculpted by George Gammon Adams, is located in the Research Reading Room at Mile End Library. Beaumont founded the Beaumont Institute in 1841, which offered a library with free lectures. His funds later established the People’s Palace to support education in the East End.

Next to Queen Mary’s Mile End Library is a unique feature—a Grade II listed Sephardic Jewish burial ground, established in 1733. It's one of just two Sephardic cemeteries remaining in England, providing a space for reflection and remembrance, especially with Holocaust Memorial Day approaching.
