Maybe a temporary tolls holiday?
December 25, 2025 at 12:15 PM
Should we give them a non-refundable tax credit too?
December 25, 2025 at 12:14 PM
“Motivate people to stop committing […] fraud”. Listen to yourself!!!
December 25, 2025 at 12:06 PM
This is nonsense. Drivers don’t represent a large enough voting block to throw them a bone like this (and they don’t react to this and just vote for whoever is the latest Post darling is anyway).

Insurance fraud can be stopped very easily if we wanted to, no reason to subsidise parking for that.
December 25, 2025 at 12:05 PM
Yes indeed but on pedestrian issues New York is _better_ than other cities in the US! Why would we learn from cities that do it worse than us?
December 25, 2025 at 12:03 PM
Why is giving locals a discount a good idea for curb allocation? Sure, other places do it (places where people drive more, I must add!), but why?
December 25, 2025 at 1:15 AM
Everywhere else is worse than New York! New York is the best city in the country, why would we copy their backwards methods.
December 25, 2025 at 12:41 AM
Cars ARE bad, that’s the whole reason we want car owners to pay. They are a horrible use of public space, they are also noisy, create congestion, kill people, put people in debt. They’re awful, we should do as much as we can to discourage them. Especially in New York where you don’t need then
December 25, 2025 at 12:40 AM
They don’t! We pay for the roads from the municipal taxes. You live in some fantasy world where a couple of hundred bucks you pay for registration and another hundred for insurance somehow magically pay for what, roads and parking?
December 25, 2025 at 12:38 AM
Just off the top of my head: Lyft takes way less space, it is shared between thousands of people each year, it is way more efficient as it only needs to move me and not two tons of batteries, it doesn’t kill anyone, it doesn’t spontaneously catch on fire
December 25, 2025 at 12:36 AM
It’s not about the usage of public space (it is a public space, so it will be used by the public!), it’s about charging people who use more than they should or in a way that’s not beneficial to the people as whole.
December 24, 2025 at 10:19 PM
And by definitely look I mean why would we do that?! We should encourage efficient use of public space.
December 24, 2025 at 10:18 PM
Let’s definitely look into taxing bus riders and cyclists, but given that they use the space so much more efficiently, we have to do this for car drivers first.
December 24, 2025 at 10:17 PM
Like who gives a shit about other costs? This is not a Costco where you get a coupon every year after spending a certain amount. Either parking is paid for or isn’t not.
December 24, 2025 at 10:16 PM
So you agree that parking specifically is free and car owners are not paying for it?
December 24, 2025 at 10:15 PM
Charging for parking is a good idea. But shouldn’t be any preference for locals. Only locals park their cars in New York anyway (who else will?!!); and we should deal with the insurance fraud directly.
December 24, 2025 at 10:13 PM
My point exactly
December 24, 2025 at 7:21 PM
They don’t, though? In the most obvious sense that’s it’s free for them?
December 24, 2025 at 5:54 PM
Every other major city in the US is worse than New York! We don’t have to import their terrible ideas.

In seriousness, transit advocates usually are against residential zoned parking because it encourages people to lead car-centric lifestyles.
December 24, 2025 at 5:50 PM
Didn’t he obtain his previous “clearance” through an override?
December 22, 2025 at 7:22 PM
They absolutely do, great way to demonstrate you get my point!
December 22, 2025 at 3:58 PM
No exceptions to the rule that anyone who uses the term "north star" non-ironically is a moron.
December 22, 2025 at 3:02 PM
So you're saying tokens made subway a little cheaper for rich people? Sounds great, not going to lie.
December 22, 2025 at 2:57 PM
That, and whatever Mondaire Jones thought he was doing. Just an absolute fluke, really, in that district.
December 22, 2025 at 2:05 AM
The guy wasn’t popular to begin with. His entire survival strategy should’ve been to shut up and libble and hope he is left alone; instead he decided he was going to be a blue dog.
