Thoroughly enjoyed last night's #RATW final. What a great bunch of contestants. I love that the show has managed to stay true to its original design and that the people in it aren't merely celebrity seekers. Here I am with some of them at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend 🥰.

Oh my goodness, this is amazing. I have about 80 pages left and I just know it's going to make my cry my heart out.

It's officially my most productive April since I had my #solar panels installed in 2022. And in just over three years, I've saved almost 2500kg of carbon. My solar panels have paid for themselves by reducing my energy bills. Don't let the commentators tell you solar doesn't work.

I bought The Future by @naomialderman.bsky.social after seeing her speak at Hay last year. I'm finally reading it and can hardly put it down. The world she has built is fascinating, terrifying and all too familiar, and then there are mindblowing observations like this.

I wore my summer running kit for the first time today and I will never tire of running in a skort. #runsky

Two thirds of the month done and we've already overtaken last year and 2023 for my domestic energy production. Holding out to beat 2022!

Went out to walk the kids' dad's dog this morning. Beautiful day for it. Everything is just about to burst into life.

Guys, we have GOT to start giving this stuff back! Hire artisans to create replicas, display it alongside photographs of the originals and give the things back to the countries we stole them from. When China is trolling us like this, surely our moral bankruptcy is too uncomfortably apparent?!

Her brother is on the bed with me, so she's just sitting there like a jealous little bitch 😂 (she would be very welcome up here, she hasn't been forced off the bed)

This arrived in the post today. It's Caroline Darian's account of her mother, Gisèle Pelicot's extraordinary survival. I'm finding it hard to read, but it feels like the least I can do after Gisèle did so much for all of us.

Stayed in bed to finish my third book of the year this morning. This is an absolute beauty of a book. It's told from the point of view of the titular hen. It has masses of heart and I found it unputdownable.

Another gorgeous, frosty morning here in Sussex.

Rocky is normally very afraid of my head, so I was pleasantly surprised when he lay this close to me 😻.

Apparently yes, he absolutely does need to sit precisely there.

Finished my first book of 2025. We Must be Brave by Frances Liardet. Deeply moving. Liardet's depictions of poverty and hunger gnawed at me. It reminded me in places of Still Life by Sarah Winman. A big cast of characters and all the ways people love one another.

Why no, I am absolutely not doing anything that would in any way harm this monstera. I am a jungle cat.

She's so sweet and sleepy.

This was my final read of 2024 and honestly one of the best. It's a gentle, beautiful, heartbreaking novel, not about death so much as about the end of a life and all the ways in which life goes on, even after the greatest loss. Newman's observational writing and characters are extraordinary.

I don't know what they're doing, but they've been like this for ages.

This year, I set myself the challenge of reading my TBR shelf from left to right with no exceptions. It has been a revelation of a reading year and there is now space on my shelf again for @veggiev to give me my annual 12 books of Christmas gift 🥰.
