Yeah creature types are always an issue even on cards that are within magic, they recently changed it so creature type hound also counts as a dog because it didn't before. Think the magic rules like a Jenga pile and they kinda just keep adding to the pile and somehow it never seems to fall

As a magic the gathering player and from the cards I've seen, the mechanics are pretty on flavor for FFXIV for the most part and are very creative work arounds to represent the characters. You gotta keep in mind magic the gathering is a ruleset that hasn't really seen many changes since the 90's
