I think this is a reference to Phaedrus (370 BC) in which Plato argued that writing as inferior to spoken discourse and potentially harmful to memory and true understanding.

What did he do? Whole thing’s a bloodbath but I thought the gods just seemed to treat it all as entertainment, give or take a bit of squabbling between themselves
