In other words: frequent experiences of discrimination may make it harder to precisely construct emotions, which in turn could heighten anxiety. 🧠💭

In a sample of 117 women (ages 18–42), we found:
💠 Higher perceived daily discrimination → higher alexithymia
💠 Higher alexithymia → higher anxiety
💠 Discrimination predicted anxiety indirectly via alexithymia

Discrimination is a well-known stressor — but why it leads to anxiety isn’t fully clear.

We tested whether alexithymia — difficulty identifying or describing one’s emotions — might be one pathway connecting discrimination to anxiety.
