Good to report 28 active House Martin nests on the estate this year (East Malling/ Ditton). Same number as 2024. Excellent really considering the ultra dry Kentish Spring. Not sure were they are obtaining mud though🤔

Spring inland whinchat are quite scarce in central and west Kent. In the latest KBR (2022) whinchat were only recorded at 4 sites. Today’s East Malling bird was most welcome especially as it has to be one of the most strikingly marked whinchat I can recall seeing.

First for me on the East Malling patch. A distant 200yds+ heavily cropped Golden Plover.
@baldbirder.bsky.social informed me that there are a few records for the 1990s. Odd individual would roost among the flock of 450+ Lapwing. Lucky to get a couple of flyovers per yr of the latter now!
