Emergency child psychiatrist, neuroscientist, and medical educator. ADHDer, obsessed with live music, fiction reader, wife, cat mom to three Maine Coons. Here for women’s and LGBTQ+ rights, fighting misinformation, and decreasing mental health stigma.
I am a very avid #music fan. I saw a post earlier about all of the issues with #spotify. Sincere question: assuming that I am not going to stop #streaming music, aside from the obvious things, what should fans be doing to support the artists we love in the streaming era?

On this National Rare Disease Day, I would like to make sure that all other metaphor-loving health care professionals are aware that the official awareness ribbon for the National Organization for Rare Disorders is zebra print. 😂🦓❤️

In 2022, the USA DID NOT have the the highest age-standardized incidence rate of cancer. We actually had the 4th highest age-standardized incidence rate of cancer. Australia, New Zealand, and Denmark were higher. See the graphs below for overall rates and breakdown by sex for the top 15 countries.

Decided to spend some time more time actually reading and trying to understand the EA on the "Make America Healthy Again" Commission.

I made it to the second paragraph. The cancer numbers cited didn't sound right to me...

That's because, as far as I can tell, they are just completely untrue.

I am an alumna of this program. My experience at NIMH as a post-bacc IRTA was pivotal in terms of me becoming the physician-scientist I am today.

These policies and layoffs are making American science and medicine dumber, less qualified, less prepared.

This language tells me everything I need to know about how little this administration understands my work and my patients.

I am not a threat to the health and safety of the children of this nation.

You, however, absolutely are.

Felis Sol Invictus was the sweetest, fluffiest, shyest little guy. He came to us 12 years ago today. Before that his life was very hard. The only human he trusted was Andrew; I had to love him from afar. He taught me a lot about patience and treating others the way they want to be treated.

Just finished Poor Deer. One of my top reads of 2024. Beautiful on a sentence level, transporting and haunting as a whole. I adored it.

Congrats @poingu.bsky.social!

See folks, a good reason to check out the @tournamentofbooks.bsky.social!

I had to give Atlas points for the accuracy of his internal clock: he woke me up at 5:56 for 6am turkey time. He also got points for cuteness.

No points were awarded for understanding the concept of “weekend.”

Last night, Dr. Atlas diagnosed me with sleep apetnea: often while sleeping, I stopped petting cats.

He was able to provide the treatment: CPPP - continuous positive petting pressure. This treatment is effective, sweet, and cuddly. However, it inceases petting at the expense of human sleep. 😴

Minerva has taken over my sink. This would be a problem if she was less cute about it.

I’m pretty obsessed with them, but my first kitty-love was a long-haired calico, so there is a special place in my heart for your gal as well!

Last year a friend and I made each other reading challenges. It’s a gift that keeps on giving. I had as much fun making hers as I’ve had reading mine. Today I got black cat magnetic bookmarks for reading a book with a 70+ year old female protagonist. Highly recommend for holidays or anytime!

The three meowskateers and I would love to join!

The gingers are Maine Coons too. For reference, this is them in a full size suitcase…
