ha! I'm glad that he did because my brain was like, "Undo in King's Quest? Uhh, yeah, I knew that was a thing... hahaha, wait, no... THAT WAS NEVER A THING! WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?!?". My mind wouldn't let me believe that such a thing existed, and I didn't know about it.

I remember being BAFFLED when I saw you undoing things in KQ1. I was like, "Is this some feature in a non-DOS version? Wait a second, Emmy would never play a non-DOS version when there's a DOS version available! WHAT IS GOING ON?!?". Fantastic work by denzquix.

What's the advantage of Pro Tools these days? I used to use it (just a home hobbyist guy), but switched to Reaper due to the costs associated with Pro Tools, so I'm out of the loop as to what would make it better for professionals. I do miss the Bus design, though.

I wish they'd at least grandfather in current material to be preserved. I get if they don't want to keep saving new material, but don't give people just 2 months to transfer everything. That, and the content that will be lost b/c there's nobody there to manage it anymore.

Right?!? They did make 2 Mario Bros. tables that aren't held in high regard these days, but they sold a decent amount of one. A Zelda table could have brought in quite a bit of money, I'd imagine, and would have at least been interesting to play.

You're welcome! I really enjoy this era of Gottlieb, but it's more like enjoying a cheesy movie than a well made blockbuster. No comparison to what Bally/Williams was doing at the time. I guess the fact that management screwed up both deals speaks to why they weren't doing so well in general.

Gottlieb solid state pinball machines are often reviled, but I find a lot of them have a certain kind of charm. They don't live up to most of the Bally/Williams tables, but I still find them to be enjoyable.

Well... not quite, unfortunately. Gottlieb botched managing the license for it by quickly swapping to American Gladiators, but ended up getting neither of them! I kinda have a soft spot for Gottlieb, but they weren't well managed around that time.

There does seem to be a number of improvements in trying to recreate those elements of a CRT on modern screens, but I hope we're able to recreate all of those element. One day, CRTs are going to wear out, and I'd hate to see a total loss of being able to appreciate the art that went into that.

I had a similar experience after hooking up my SNES to a CRT & playing Super Metroid. There was that sudden realization that a lot of the backgrounds are layered in a way that seems 3D on a CRT, but flat on a modern TV. Really made me appreciate the designs that went into making use of CRT tech.

pedal. Point was that knowing how to use gear properly can let you get lots of great sounds, but completely missed the point & thought it was all about the Bad Monkey. Anyway, I find lots of value in exploring gear & crafting it to my needs, but it's silly to let it obscure the music itself.

The Bad Monkey thing is hilarious to me b/c I remember the buzz around it was simply that it was a cheap Tubescreamer clone w/ better tone controls. The point JHS was making wasn't that the Bad Monkey is a miracle pedal, it's that you can get lots of great sounds out of a cheap, forgotten about..

I have to imagine it's a combination of the ego mentality of guitarists thinking that they're "rockstars" with guitarists being made neurotic by all the marketing BS that make guitarists insecure over their "tone" (and I say that as someone who likes to "chase tone"). That's my theory, anyway.

I might just be remembering the worst of it, but I feel like we've gotten over a huge hurdle with no arguing over which version of the Tubescreamer is the "real" version anymore. We've got a long way to go, but that was a giant leap forward.

Oh dear GOD! At least things have improved since the days of Harmony Central boards, even if YouTube comments are... well, I'm sure you know.

If you really want to instigate chaos, show them this pic & of Kurt during Live & Loud, along with the audio of him saying he got a new effects pedal called "The Grunge Pedal".

(If they're true Nirvana/guitar nerds, they'll already know the context, I'm sure.)
