My compost is ugly! No worries, it's supposed to be that way! Bagged commercial compost is sifted repeatedly to create that perfect cosmetic consistency. Sift out the big chunks and know that the rest of your mature compost will feed your soil biome and break down over time. #backyardcomposting

Don't let the rain ruin your composting fun! Cover your pile to prevent waterlogging and keep the pile cooking! Covers work like mulch, insulating all of the good stuff within. You can use lots of things, like a cheap tarp, a wooden lid, or a heavier outdoor tarp like this one. #composting #compost

Harvesting your compost? Don't clean out the bin completely. Leave a small amount of finished compost in the bottom to inoculate your new pile with beneficial microbes. This gets it cooking faster for more efficient composting and allows you to bury fresh scraps to reduce pests. #backyardcomposting
