Yeah, low and slow deficit is the game if you're trying to lean up and keep muscle around.

The usual advice is to put yourself in a 200-400 calorie deficit but keep your proteins high (0.8-1.2 g/lb body weight)...swap fats/carbs for protein. Keep training at moderate intensity and make sure you're stimulating all your muscle groups a couple times a week at minimum.
