Classic. Kill independent studio, poach big names. Probable next steps are to force them to develop something like a live service game, change it halfway through to a gacha waifu game, big names leave due to "creative differences", project dies, studio is quietly shuttered.

Clair Obscur is the only game among the nominees to be the first game in its series. It winning may send a signal that creative work does not have to be derivative to be popular in 2025.

It's an advanced engineering problem, which makes it an advanced scientific problem by proxy. Materials science, chemistry, physiology, and all the other disciplines under the umbrella term "rocket science" were all required and advanced by the space race. Also until we did it, it was hypothesis.

Also, individual role playing rewards tend in my experience to lead to spotlight stealing. Rewarding the group as a whole tends to lead to more teamwork, and lets different types of player exist at the same table without feeling that their take on role playing is invalidated by the GM.

XP for killing monsters is good for a style of play, that doesn't mean it's outdated. Every table is different. I don't like bonus XP for role-playing, because it's so hard to quantify, especially when someone is, say, playing a stoic character. Do you reward them for keeping their mouth shut?

XP shows what playing correctly means. Consistent XP per session rewards you for showing up. That seems more lazy than milestone XP IMO. In my current game, every time a milestone is reached I discuss with my players what the next one is. What is their goal? What is a significant step towards it?

You forgot Fallout 76

This post is misleading and should be reported as such. It pretends that bluesky listened to its users when in fact it did not.

If you want to encourage comments on your art pieces, leave a like on the comments when you can (and the comment is at least polite or thoughtful). If the OP does not interact with a comment it feels like talking into the void.

This is part of the reason I prefer the streaming culture on YT, there's way less TTS and annoying sound alerts

Reward mechanisms and their influence on how the game is played.

A mysterious sword has appeared. Nice piece.

On the other hand, modern art such as the signed urinal and the banana nailed to a wall are all idea, no execution. What does that tell us about these pieces?
June 6, 2025 at 3:34 AM
The Codex Alera by Jim Butcher was written as the result of someone saying the good idea is at the center of a work of fiction, and Jim Butcher saying something like, "Bet. Give me the worst idea you can think of, I'll write a popular series."

I'm very surprised you have time to post on bluesky in between catching up on all the 200-page terms of service that companies say can change without warning every time one of your subscriptions or free services comes up for monthly renewal.

Keep in mind that a lot of people simply use "build" without saying whether they focus on PvP or PvE. Context clues help here, if they discuss why the build is good.

I don't accept the premise they present either. In general, I think categories are mostly useful as a shorthand ("metroidvania" is shorter than describing a game's inspirations) or for sorting storefronts - in both cases more categories is better than few.

Also, Calvin and Hobbes deserves better.

That's pretty cool, but the name and my weebness gives me the mental image that he's on his way to hang lunchboxes from trees.

On the other hand, some Bards are overloaded on reactions already. At my tables, they typically take the debuff-inspiration on enemies and also are the primary source of Counterspell due to their limited spell selection.
