They have *such* good eye candy shoes. I have a pair of these - the buckles are skulls.

Dear internet fashion-knowers: I am looking for a pair of boots. Specifically this kind of boot, but in actual leather, not fake leather.

I beseech thee - someone please tell me where I can find this?

Forty days from now:

Update update: using the magnetic fidget cubes is a definite maybe. I’ll grant some variation because I’m testing it on a plastic bag that’s not perfectly flat to the magnets, but then - my nail wouldn’t be flat either.
November 8, 2025 at 3:20 AM
Update: holy shit, is it just a set of magnetic fidget cubes?!? Because I have SO MANY of those. So many.
November 8, 2025 at 2:21 AM
Hey, fellow nail polish people - do any of you know where I can get the magnet that does THIS?

Many scientists were working to figure out aspects of its structure. Most notable for this story is Dr. Rosalind Franklin, whose famous Photo 51 is a clear picture of DNA - albeit like taking a picture of a chair from underneath, in some ways. If you know the same of a chair, it’s obvious. If not…

I actually do still have the poster - it’s rolled up in the poster tube I put it in that day, but the tube sits on my office bookshelf. It’s a reminder that science is and MUST BE engaged with the whole of the world and our impacts in it.

The NYT is having some serious issues with cope right now.

There’s passive-aggressive data viz, and there’s “putting a teeeeeeeeny weeny 0.7-point-shift arrow on Mecklenburg County” passive-aggressive.
November 5, 2025 at 2:52 AM
Just look at those teeeeeeeny weeny little baby red arrows. Can you even find all four?
November 5, 2025 at 2:47 AM
And even there, it’s such a small red shift that it’s almost hard to believe.

As this shutdown bullshit moves into its second month, with the winter dark and cold creeping in… I’m trying to be positive, truly I am, but it is fucking HARD.

Happy Halloween! Puppy kisses are half off tomorrow. 😁

Pumpkins complete.
October 31, 2025 at 3:16 AM
Dog is okay!

Can’t go get her yet, but sooooon!
October 28, 2025 at 6:44 PM
Halloween is THIS FREAKING FRIDAY?!? That feels… unfair. Did you all okay that? Because I didn’t.
October 28, 2025 at 1:27 AM
This is a valid and compelling argument - my counter-suggestion is panini press.
October 27, 2025 at 12:36 AM
I’m honestly unclear at this point why we’re all still talking about this guy. Anyone who’s still defending him at this point isn’t going to stop because they hear yet another problematic thing he’s done.

I was curious what the grandfather’s furniture designs looked like. They’re these, so you don’t also end up as sexy midcentury furniture for Halloween.
October 25, 2025 at 9:11 PM
I had one of these. I had to get rid of it, because an SGI Octane with undiagnosable intermittent video issues is quite literally a boat anchor.

…I’d get another one in a hot picosecond.
October 25, 2025 at 8:19 PM
Does anyone know what this knot is called so I can look up how to do it?

I’ve worn this necklace nearly every day for a decade, and as you can kinda see there at the bottom, the drupe that forms the catch is wearing through the cord.
October 25, 2025 at 3:01 PM
Hopefully! It’s still wet so too dark to tell yet, but I didn’t bleach it. If the swatches are true to color, it should be somewhere between these two colors.
October 25, 2025 at 1:11 AM
Oooh, I really like that. I have a random scrap of wall that might get converted…. did you make your lovely shelves yourselves?
