Son of Frankenstein (1939) ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

This movie was a blast. The third of the original Frankenstein films and final for Boris Karloff. The movie where Frank gets his fuzzy sweater vest. Bela Lugosi and Basil Rathbone steal this movie. Mel Brooks borrored heavily from this one for Young Frankenstein

Not sure what I expected from this movie. I knew it was the same guy who directed Ichi the Killer, so I was anticipating wall to wall violence. Instead it’s a slow build to the inevitable torturous finale. It really makes the payoff that much more effective. Not the goriest film but I was squirming

This movie fucking rocks. Tight as hell hour twenty heist movie. Is this my favorite Kubrick now? Totally invents the shotgun in a flower box and robbery with a clown mask tropes. Cannot recommend more
