WHAT A RIDE! Yesterday was an incredible ride. I drove for an hour and a half through the thick mist and fog to the base of the climb at Great Dun Fell. I was rewarded for the effort with a very memorable ride! Why? Well, the fell extended higher than the mist! Wow. Just. Wow. YouTube video coming!

New ride video up on my youtube (link in bio). The video captures my ride yesterday on the roads of Essex. Had great fun riding with a couple of friends. It wasn't a long ride, we were on a time limit, but still huge amounts of fun had! It's surprisingly mild given its late December!

Huge fun had out riding yesterday in the sunshine and blue skies (Essex UK). Today’s rain, wind and cold makes me glad I decided to jump on the bike yesterday!

Huge fun had out riding yesterday in the sunshine and blue skies (Essex UK). Today’s rain, wind and cold makes me glad I decided to jump on the bike yesterday!

The weekend ride plans were interrupted by a huge storm. When I looked at the forecast late Friday for where I planned my ride Saturday there were 60-90mph winds forecast as well as snow!! I decided to turbo instead. @zwift is a real hero this time of year. I especially love the climb portal!

Huge amounts of fun had this weekend riding the roads of North Essex with a friend, 110km loop with a coffee and cake stop half way. The next day a shorter 45km recovery (ish) ride with another group of friends. Great weekend!

Washed my bike in the dark in the garden after work, then fitted new winter tyres and some fresh inner tubes and oiled the chain. The tyres were a real struggle to fit. Needed levers and a lot of convincing! All set for tomorrow’s big ride now though!

I’m pondering about commuting by bicycle to work, Essex to London. On the plus side, it’s around 25km each way so it’s a great way to add exercise into the week. On the down side, it means cycling in traffic regularly with all that entails from a stress and risk perspective.

Is there anywhere better to ride a bicycle than the North of England in the sunshine? For the budding puncheur I’d say not!

Planning a ride this weekend… got a route mapped out using Komoot. It’s 110km with a cafe stop at 60km. I’ve not cycled the route before, heading to a new area, so that adds to the sense of adventure! Looking forward to it.
