There’s some odd thinking here. ‘Wilful’, ‘perilously’, etc. The film isn’t going to make anyone fascist who wasn’t previously; nor does it support anyone trying to make it a fascist rallying cry. It’s a spotter’s guide to fascist bullshit.

It feels like there’s an odd imperative at play here to collapse all satire into success or failure based on how ridiculous the fascists in it look. But Starship Troopers is saying ‘the cruelty is the point’, long before that became MAGA credo. It spears fascism perfectly.
