While "Brevity is the soul of wit," is often attributed to Mark Twain, the original is more precisely attributed to Shakespeare, but in in a time of sound bites and anecdotes, speaking in paragraphs is more important than any other human faculty.

If a savage beating, captured on camera, cannot produce a murder conviction, the chances of fixing the police-brutality problem are very bleak.

So, the conclave chose an American . . . thankfully not the one who thought he should be the next pope.

And tonight’s vote makes one thing tragically clear: Trump and his enablers are no longer hiding their intentions. They intend to use their power mercilessly.

I truly can’t believe what has happened to this country because of Republicans.

So what does this mean for each of us? It means that no one is safe if no one speaks up. It means that staying quiet is no longer neutrality — it’s surrender. It means that democracy will not survive if fear wins.

Trump wants to end that. He wants Americans — born here or not — to live in constant fear that stepping out of line could mean exile, punishment, or erasure. That’s what this is about. It’s about obedience, not policy. About building a system where silence and submission are the only safe choice.

Neighbors who post opinions on Facebook. Everyday people who, in a democracy, have always had the right to speak freely and disagree openly with power.

This is no longer just about “immigrants” or “radical leftists” — this is about every single one of us. It’s about journalists who report the truth. Teachers who discuss uncomfortable history. Lawyers who argue constitutional law or stand up to Trump. Activists who organize protests.

He will find a way to ruin you, threaten your family, and yes — if he can — deport you, even if you are a U.S. citizen. This isn’t hyperbole.

This is not subtle anymore. Trump and Republicans are not simply trying to win political battles — they are trying to frighten and silence anyone who opposes Trump. His message is blunt: if you speak against him, there will be consequences.

Tonight, every Republican on the House Judiciary Committee voted unanimously to advance a bill to the House floor that would make it legal to deport U.S. citizens. Every Democrat on the committee voted against it. 1/

I just saw the video of Trump confusing transgenic for transgender to justify blaming $8.1 million on waste/fraud/abuse, all in an attempt to throw red meat to MAGA. You can't make this $h!t up. 🥸

Great Aunt Helen was profound in her observations regarding genealogy . . "Don't shake the tree too hard, you may not appreciate what falls out." . . I have stopped shaking the tree, and a lifetime of research dies with me. Fairly sure there won't be much fuss over my very narrow subject matter.

I'm not sure, but it sounded like Illinois Governor JB Pritzker announced his intent to run for President in 2028 with that speech on Sunday.

Anyone supporting cuts to the VA and the vets who kept us safe, and the active duty and reserves who still keep us safe. If you knew how little our service members are paid, you should understand that they do/did "the job" for love of country.

Perhaps in times like this, George Carlin hit very close to the bullseye.
We’re going away. Pack your shit, folks. We’re going away. And we won’t leave much of a trace, either. Maybe a little Styrofoam … 1/
