I did a thrower playthrough recently, i can attest that its weaker than baseline in early prehardmode, but it gains a gigantic powerspike right after wof, since the gas containers let you setup some seriously Oppenheimer reminiscent explosions. After that it tapers of a bit but stays fairly good
