It works pretty well. I have done a similar thing just with paint thinned down with isopropyl alcohol to paint 3dprinted books and that worked quite well. This takes a bit longer to dry but a hair dryer can help speed it up.b

I'm testing out mixing paint, thinning it down a bit and then pouring the rocks into the paint. I use this mesh sieve to drain all the excess paint to save for more rocks. I usually glue and then paint these so this will help skip at least one step.
