I talk to everyone anywhere. Politicians will do what they believe is popular we need to be loud and clear criminalization is not what works and not what the public supports. Which means one by one we all talk to a member of the public everyday until it grows to a roar.

And here is a link to the bill as it passed out of Budget two nights ago. The crazy thing is—this isn’t even the final version they are expecting to vote on. Because they haven’t posted that one yet—which they’re still cutting deals on.

Imagine telling a parent there is a medication w/ a proven 50% chance of saving their child’s life & access to it is being denied by outdated policies & protection of private equity firms. That is profit over people multiple times a day. For years. There are no words for the depth of this atrocity.

Thank you for being open to sharing knowledge around drug use. All the lost potential over opinion and a tragic obsession with prohibition has been heart-breaking and horrifically devastating. Evidence based decisions would save lives.

I am no expert but MOUD, housing and UBI or skills training would likely offer more long term stability than “treatment.”

FYI the ASAM Guidelines are MOUD (Medications for Opioid Use Disorder) with or without counseling. There is no over site of these “treatment” centers. There is a study that doing nothing is safer than abstinence based treatment. Be cautious of all those making money off of PWUD. And there are many.

It should not matter where someone lives they deserve access to any FDA approved medication. Methadone reduces mortality by over 50% but the regulations prevent its use by anyone not living close enough to a OTP. And criminalization? People will be denied housing and employment for a decade.
May 14, 2025 at 12:40 AM
There were over 100,000 lives lost to drug use. These are preventable deaths. There is a bill stalled because the Methadone clinics are owned by private equity firms and they hired lobbies to block it. Please have someone on your staff read:

Expanding Medicaid in Wisconsin would save the state $1.7B, report finds
Wisconsin is one of 10 states that has not expanded Medicaid under the ACA, and is considered the bluest state to avoid expansion.
