Just caught this awesome live performance from @lislegaard, which includes a tap dancer on a pad that translates her steps to sound.

I love how badass the dancer clearly feels. It must be amazing to have something you've […]

If you’re a self-funded musician who is howling into the face of all but universal indifference, there is something cathartic in this analysis of social media driven pop music.

I suspect it’s largely always been such, that at some point working class musicians stopped having real access to the […]

The latest from @rebeccawatson is pointed and on point. A clear eyed, unblinking essay on the effort to manufacture a narrative around the murder in Minneapolis.

I'm cancelling my SoundCloud subscription. Here's why.

Why I’m leaving SoundCloud

For me, SoundCloud is one more clarifying story. ## Staying and Leaving I’ve seen platforms for independent musicians come and go. It’s hard for me to believe that it’s been years since SongWhip went from being an essential musician (and fan) tool to completely gone. SoundCloud still exists and it seems to work well for some musicians. Not so much for me that I’m willing to pay for it. ## Clouds and Sounds When I first upgraded to “Pro” on SoundCloud, it was an experiment for me. My alter-ego, _Stanley G_ , needed a distributor. So I chose SoundCloud for that purpose. Unfortunately, my experiment did not succeed. The tools, analysis, and environment did not impress me. There were also some unresolved questions about how much access LLM/AI tools have access to the platform. One of the most annoying things for me was all the spammers who are on the platform. So, I cancelled my paid subscription. That means that all the tracks by Stanley G will be removed from streaming platforms. I’m okay with that. It was an experiment after all. ## G’bye, SoundCloud I found the subscription price quite high. The analysis tool data did not match what I saw for the same tracks in the Apple Music artist tools. Add to that the unsolicited messages and I grew weary of the platform very quickly. Don’t get me wrong, I know that lots of my peers appreciate and even enjoy SoundCloud. More power to you! If it’s working for you, then keep working it. I’m not sure if I’ll release any of these tracks through another distributor. It seems unlikely given how little interest there’s been in them. ### Please share! * Click to share on Mastodon (Opens in new window) Mastodon * Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window) LinkedIn * Click to share on Threads (Opens in new window) Threads * Click to share on Bluesky (Opens in new window) Bluesky * Click to email a link to a friend (Opens in new window) Email * More * * Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook * Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window) Reddit * * Click to share on Tumblr (Opens in new window) Tumblr * Click to share on Pinterest (Opens in new window) Pinterest * * Click to share on X (Opens in new window) X * ### Like this: Like Loading... ### _More for you_ * * * ### Discover more from Stan Stewart - @muz4now Subscribe to get the latest posts sent to your email. Watching a music nerd YouTuber with a 5 string bass and a Berklee haircut react to Morphine is funny shit. “I don’t have a slide here…” haha, come on dude.

Just saw a discussion on Bluesky about whether shitty people should get the benefit of universal social services and it made me so mad. Took a lot of willpower to not start quote posting dumb takes.

So I guess that website is working as expected.

We don't really describe things as "supped up" anymore, do we?

We should bring that back.

There are places deep in the earth where the water is crystal clear or it would be, if there were any light. All of the sediment, all of the dust has settled long ago. All of the gasses have escaped. These hidden volumes of water, like houses. Like the space between bridges. The space between […]
