Retired with too much time on my hands, my interests include history and art. I am also a Freemason, which I enjoy due to my background as a failed actor.
You are missing some context in the full text of the amendment, just as 14th defenders often elide "and subject to the jurisdiction thereof." You and they both are being dishonest in your arguments.

To be sure, I agree with you-- I consider myself a "14th Amendment absolutist". However, your elision "and subject to the jurisdiction thereof" is problematic: this is where the controversy lies, since our opponents take an unduly expansive view of the phrase. To overlook it isn't helpful.

Actually, I'm not particularly worried about the person hurting him or herself. Hurting others, yes, but self-harm resulting from one's own seriously criminal acts isn't a top priority.

Sarah, you are a rare and precious anomaly: a sane comedian and satirist. I worry you'll be driven crazy soon, though.

Deed transfers to preserve assets are common when a person goes into end of life care. Usually they go to family and are acceptable if they have provided caretaking prior to going into a facility. I would need to know more about this, and whether there were any off-the-record agreements.

In liberal Oregon, I happen to know a disproportionate number of people who have moved here from Arkansas. I like Arkansans. But these are the ones who know about the problems with the state and its governance.

This is strictly a money grab, not for the fans. If you want to find out who has the best team, no more than four to six should have solid arguments at the end of the season. A team seeded lower than six could easily win through, and when that happened, it will make a travesty of the process.

I know it's difficult to ignore the whispers on social media about a particular celebrity's or politician's true character, but unless you have some personal connection to a trusted source, or there is a legal basis, it's best not to give it any weight.

Was it Hemingway who made the observation about a man who went bankrupt slowly, then quickly? You see it often. It's surprising how long a person or an institution can hang on, until the fingers slip from the rung they have been clinging to.
