I’m wondering if there will be a big impromptu protest this weekend. Seems like there should be.

He’s literally a Tim Robinson character

I genuinely burst out laughing every time I hear him talk, it’s like watching an egg throw a directionless sputtering temper tantrum

And politically, having a fight is better than not fighting at all
January 5, 2026 at 7:19 PM
Idk at the end of the day this is all abstract and impossible to predict. But what I do know is the expectations the constitution has of Congress, and as a constituent I have expectations that officers of U.S. law uphold it. Ik not every member is interested in that—but this document is pretty clear
January 5, 2026 at 7:19 PM
Right but all dems are expected to be pro democracy (and maybe 1 Republican lol—tho I honestly suspect if it was treated like a bigger issue you could convince a few more, even despite the fact this is not the same R party as 2017). I know the numbers make it doa- but a push changes the framing.
January 5, 2026 at 7:17 PM
Like the refusal to entertain the largest pro democracy tool at their disposal in the constitution says something—that signals they don’t rlly care about democracy. Ik it’s hard to educate the public on these things bc they’re more abstract in practice but I don’t think it’s impossible.
January 5, 2026 at 7:06 PM
Tho they have so much ability to frame the narrative. Sure, econ is a big deal but Idk if it’s the #1 thing ppl vote on—cultural issues have also been deciding factors in previous elections. Is it possible we lose this pro democracy point bc our leaders and media dont frame or communicate it right?
January 5, 2026 at 7:04 PM
And this is where I complain about character limit as always, it’s hard to be articulate with it, but I know I sound naive here and I understand the limitations and the deep corruption of Repubs. But there is a responsibility here to at least pretend like the constitution is still alive
January 5, 2026 at 3:18 PM
This is what I mean about creating a public conversation—not to create some sort of favorable conditions for an election, but to hammer it into ppl’s minds about the legality of these actions and civic responsibilities. At present Dems just letting everything slide makes it seem like it’s all okay.
January 5, 2026 at 3:16 PM
If impeachment isn’t serious anymore then he can do whatever he wants. It feels like people have completely forgotten he’s already attempted to end democracy and just think he’s another GWB or something. He has all the tools and incentives to undemocratically install Vance in exchange for a pardon.
January 5, 2026 at 2:58 AM
If you say so. I think things like the other day can’t go unpunished or treated unseriously or he’ll keep doing them and escalating their reach. And saying it’s not worth impeaching is by definition saying it’s not serious.
January 5, 2026 at 2:49 AM
A winning message for 2028? He’s trying to consolidate power NOW.
January 5, 2026 at 2:44 AM
I think thats the exact question Donald Trump wants everyone to feel. Cynicism and lawlessness is fertile ground for dictatorship.
January 5, 2026 at 12:20 AM
So far Im only getting signals that they wont. But like I said the initial person Im responding to says “noone gives a shit” and I rlly do think thats the lesson learned from 2 failed impeachments for Dems.Id feel more confident if impchmnt was the rallying cry for 26, and theres ways to signal that.
January 4, 2026 at 9:21 PM
Agreed. But the person I’m initially responding to here is of the mind that impeachment is useless even with majorities—this is also the thought process of dem leadership rn. We really should shake that assumption up, bc it means the relatively “lawful” 1st term was more impeachable than the 2nd
January 4, 2026 at 9:11 PM
Sure but that reality will be the same in 2027 without a senate. Even if we had a majority in both chambers, we won’t get 67. That’s what ppl say when they say “do the numbers”. So what exactly are Dems proving when they let all of this slide? They are rhetorically saying a pres can do whatever.
January 4, 2026 at 9:07 PM
So what you’re saying is that YOU think impeachment proceedings are a symptom of “derangement” and not a tool for reigning in lawlessness
January 4, 2026 at 9:05 PM
Like frankly treating impeachment like something that only the majority can create the conversation on is what delegitimizes it and makes it inherently partisan. It may be functionally that way now, but having that convo w/o the numbers shows that it’s the nonpartisan emergency function that it is
January 4, 2026 at 9:04 PM
I think you’re thinking of it from the perspective of partisanship too much. The oath Congress has is to the constitution, not parties. I know Repubs flout that. That can be demonstrated by undergoing the process laid out in the constitution. TDS is already what they accuse Dems of for everything.
January 4, 2026 at 9:02 PM
They voted against impeachment proceedings several times last year. They don’t want to uphold the legitimacy of the practice in the constitution bc of “the numbers”. The point is to create the public discussion and appearance and they are failing it and delegitimizing the practice altogether.
January 4, 2026 at 8:58 PM
And like, if they engaged in impeachment proceedings as the legitimate answer to crimes and not just a function of party game mechanics I would have some renewed confidence
January 4, 2026 at 8:54 PM
I just have a hard time understanding why leadership in particular is so tepid. If the Dems as a whole were more of the mind of swalwell types then the leadership would reflect that or be ousted and replaced with those that do. Timidity seems to be the majority opinion of the party at present.
