Bye, bye bunnies! We recently released a few cottontail youngsters that came in to us as babies only a few days old. Many cottontail babies are victims of our pets - you can help by keeping cats indoors and supervising dogs during baby season!

Only YOU can prevent habituated bears! The bears in Colorado are waking up and looking for easy food sources. Secure bird feeders, outdoor dog and cat foods, trash cans, and uncleaned grills. Together, we can keep bears in the wild where they belong!

Spring's almost here, and with it comes releases that leave us feeling fulfilled! Nicer weather allows us to release animals that stayed with us over winter, like this red-tailed hawk that was recently returned to its home. It's rewarding to see an animal happily return to the wild where it belongs!

Thank you! We've received several items from our wish lists recently! These gifts help keep our residents and rehab animals clean, healthy, fed, and entertained. Winter is often a quieter time for us, but we almost always have a few squirrels spending the winter at our facility. Fall babies can't usually be released until spring, since they don't have the opportunity to build up winter food stores before the snow flies. They'll be released soon though!

Creating formula/milk replacer for an orphaned baby is a complex process of matching protein, fat, and other nutrients as closely as possible to mother's milk. Rehabilitators do this with experience and data, so please leave the feeding to the professionals, and never trust online formula recipes!

We're so excited that we have a local charity race series up and running again! The 2025 EcoPoint 5K Series includes charity races all through the valley, with awesome prizes for each event AND the series overall! For more information, contact Rifle Recreation.

Another reason not to feed baby wildlife you find? Aspiration! Without training, proper equipment, and the right formula, it's easy to end up with a baby aspirating into their lungs. They are better off arriving at the rehabber a little hungry than with a life-threatening condition like pneumonia.

Please don't feed baby wildlife, no matter how tempting it may be! Babies that are cold or dehydrated are often unable to digest formula and can die from bloat and other digestive issues. Instead, keep them in a warm, quiet place and call your local rehabber ASAP!
