Pittsburgher / lawyer / worrier / aging runner / loyal Mountaineer (though I no longer understand what happened to WV)
Members of my Episcopalian parish, mostly retired and in their late 60s to 80s, helped to organize an interfaith group that gathers outside of the closest ICE facility to support and pray for the detainees. (Not for nothing, but this is one reason I can’t stand the “boomer” epithet.)

There’s a Catholic church on just about every corner in Pittsburgh, so you shouldn’t have any trouble finding one. But the quality of their choirs is key - that’s what makes the service!

Remember the documentary “American Movie”? It was released in 1999 & really captured something about that era and the precariousness of the main characters’ lives. I’m not sure it would have landed with the same effect even a few years later.

I first heard you several years ago on Ana Marie Cox's podcast (on Crooked) & have followed you ever since. I am so deeply sorry that the world around you is so heavy and people are so gratuitously cruel. Please know that you do belong here & that so many of us value your voice and perspective.

It was on TCM last Friday - watched and laughed just like the previous 50 times we'd seen it.

Yes, when I got a call that my husband was being admitted to the cardiac ICU with a 99% blockage in his left main artery, I really wished that I had the opportunity to shop around for the lowest cost bypass surgery (sarcasm). What clowns these guys are.

We take a couple of little plug-in night lights on our trips for this reason! One goes in the hotel room and the other in the bathroom.

Except for the popcorn, this could have been my late granny's list. Toward the end of her life, her diet was mainly Coke without ice and French vanilla ice cream. She loved her sweets but weighed under 100 pounds her whole adult life.

I'm old enough to be his mother and I thought he was around my age.

So good. I listened during my treadmill run last night and almost fell off when you did the Tampa accent.

I have a few years on you in both firms and in-house, but experience and roles are similar, & this is my experience as well. Some women (I'm one of them) can obsess about or overthink criticism or tense situations. Many men, OTOH, let it all out no matter how offensive, but retreat when confronted.

Getting flashbacks to my early law firm years (mid- 80s/90s). I loved my firm but there were plenty of slights, crudeness, aggression, etc., even from peers & friends. I was in a specialty that at that time didn't have many women, so in meetings was always the default coffee server, copy girl, etc.

Glad to see you are keeping the tradition going in these perilous times, sir.

It's insulting how stupid he is.

We drive through rural MD, WV, & VA a couple times a year to visit in-laws. Familiar scene in all 3 is the presence of Trump signs, flags, etc. - many homes w/multiples of them and sometimes alongside confederate insignia. Doubtful that this will move most of them away from Trump, but one can hope.

He just graduated from law school 3 years ago! If the racism didn't already disqualify him, his lack of experience surely would!
