How can you not be romantic about baseball?

We watched it last week and I kind of had a similar vibe, but @bruntbear.bsky.social made some interesting connections with modern day issues like gun violence in schools.

I thought the movie was well made but didn't see the next-level greatness that a lot of people proclaimed.

I didn't mean it to dismiss your points. Quite the opposite in fact. My brain isn't wired that way. It was nice to think of it as something more.

Admittedly there is a lot of Disco that I've forgotten as I've watched most of it once, where I've seen TNG top to bottom maybe half a dozen+ times.

I would like to believe that Starfleet tested the waters with a lot of these things and found that the juice wasn't worth the squeeze. You can see where the line stops when they're investigating ____ and they're asking the computer a series of questions to help them make a deduction. It's a tool.

I tend to be a little pessimistic with these sorts of things and feel like "they did it for the plot" is the reason more often than not. If there are cameras everywhere, how can you have a murder mystery? But you bring up some interesting points.
