This relies on the Western epistemological hierarchy of ‘reason’ over ‘emotion’- ‘real’ harm vs ‘felt’ harm. The distinction isn’t real. Structures of oppression are laden with affect, and excluding emotions only serves ppl whose emotions r read as not emotions (to simplify, white guys)

The reason the ‘good genes’ thing in this context evokes eugenics is bc the specific traits the ad is referring to, and that Sydney Sweeney represents in culture (blond hair, blue eyes, big tits), r traits that current supporters of eugenics love

I like this piece but I felt that quote didn’t exactly accord with the analysis that directly preceded it. White supremacist/Christian nationalist bigotry against Hindus isn’t always just abt race, often it’s abt religion, and acknowledging that can be a basis for solidarity as much as race

Liberalism’s rhetoric of ‘equality’ always come with exclusions (racial, gendered, national, etc) that define the subject that has rights and the subject who does not. Its idea of progress is also often used to justify subjugating or even exterminating ppl who ‘aren’t rational’ or stand in the way..

Some examples of liberal genocides- much of the genocide of Native Americans, much of American imperialism in general, French colonialism in Algeria
