@realgdt.bsky.social I finally saw Frankenstein on the big screen. My God. It's movies like this that will get me into a theater. It's just stunning from the story to the camera work to the sets, the costumes, makeup, music and the lighting. I'll be rewatching it on @netflix.com many times over.

RADM Dr Grace Murray Hopper is famous for her work in developing the first computer programming language written in English. She was told that her idea for the language using English words couldn’t work but she persisted and COBOL (Common Business Orientated Language) became the most used language.

In honor of Women's History Month, I'm going to spotlight female pioneers. Hedy Lamarr was a self-taught inventor who came up with a frequency-hopping signal that could not be tracked or jammed. It was patented in 1942. An update of the design was used on Navy ships during the Cuban missile crisis.

In 1940 African American inventor Frederick McKinley Jones received a patent for his roof-mounted cooling system that was used to refrigerate goods on trucks during transport. He co-founded the U.S. Thermo Control Co. The company was critical during WWII, helping preserve blood, food and supplies.

Patricia Bath was a groundbreaking Black doctor who invented the Laserphaco Probe, improving treatment for cataract patients. She became a doctor and the first Black person train in ophthalmology at Columbia University in 1969. She co-founded the American Institute for the Prevention of Blindness.

George Robert Carruthers was an inventor, physicist, engineer, and space scientist. He perfected a compact and very powerful ultraviolet camera for NASA to use when it launched Apollo 16 in 1972. They used the camera to record the Earth's outermost atmosphere.

Madam C.J. Walker, the first African American woman self-made millionaire, created hair products geared toward Black hair after developing a scalp disorder that caused her to lose most of her hair. She developed the "Walker Method" using her own formula for pomade, brushes and heated combs.
