I’ve always understood its key message to be that you’re better making furniture (in particular stools as I recall) than striving for success. Having tried academia and furniture restoration, I wholeheartedly concur!

Round us the habit of enclosing footpaths with high fences is growing. It’s so mean and only fuels the right to roam movement.

IMO at the heart of these ‘new’ disciplines are ‘old’ ones. Setting aside an obsession with the shiny shiny of the latest thing would save a lot of wasted time and money on needless change which isn’t as innovative as people like to think.

Interesting. I am assuming Laffer based his curve on some actual data or was it merely hypothetical? I wasn’t clear after listening.
