Damn, I remember the good old days when they were “enthusiastic” about abandoning a system based on profit maximization and their eagerness to give up their short-term goal of excessive wealth built on the back of workers and an arrogant disregard for the environment. What happened?

I know translate “recent events” as chronic infrastructural underinvestment coupled with a “we don’t care anymore” attitude.

Closing the seminar on 100 years of Neoliberalism, it was an absolute pleasure to include and teach this text by @will-davies.bsky.social. Published in 2016, it is still remarkably (and unfortunately) prescient. newleftreview.org/issues/ii101...

Totally excited to be teaching parts of Amy Offner's Sorting Out the Mixed Economy this week! An absolutely brilliant book that is not remotely appreciated as much as it should be. 1/

Learning about his passing just now, I went back to the last emails we exchanged & his kindness and generosity sprang out again. I cannot describe what it means for a young scholar to read such words about their phd from such an important thinker...that was Christian. He will be terribly missed ❤️😢

There is only a handful of contemporary musicians that I like - but Micah P Hinson is at the top of this list. A truly amazing concert last night in Berlin.

Spending millions to build a bridge to nowhere is truly an apt metaphor for the overall contemporary experience. A wonderful tale of insanity right here. martinrobbins.substack.com/p/how-hs2-bu...

And here I was thinking that it was the UN, the ICC, international human rights organizations, Doctors Without Borders etc etc who were leading the propaganda machine against the state of Israel but it turns out it was the IDF’s own prosecutor. 🧐

"The man dependent on his wife to drive him to work finds increasingly that she refuses to do so".

Legal theorists and friends should come clean and admit that the suspension of the rule of law is *not* a matter of law but of an authoritative political decision - it cannot, therefore, be reversed by relying on ... the rule of law. Schmitt articulated it first but everyone knows it.

Day two 🫣 If my friend Daniel Zamoras wasn’t there to bring me to my senses, I would have probably bought more. Now I just need a bigger suitcase to carry everything.

Ok Trumps new “ballroom” (a fascinating concept in itself) looks like it’s going to be entirely gold and I think people don’t talk enough about that fact. Not in terms of cost but in terms of everything else.
