Transgender Day of Remembrance on November 20th commemorates victims of transphobic violence. Established in 1999 by to honour Rita Hester, a Black transgender woman murdered in 1998. The day highlights ongoing violence against the transgender community and ensures those lost are remembered.

Film Director James Whale is born in Dudley, England. He directed such classics as Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein and lived openly as gay man throughout his career, which was virtually unheard of in the 1920s and 1930s. Whale died by suicide in 1957.
